London Schools Network

The Mercers’ Company set up the London Schools Network in 2005 to provide financial support to a coordinated programme of targeted projects in Inner London schools.  Since 2008, the programme has supported projects in the following areas:

  • Literacy
  • Primary Science/ Technology
  • Creative Arts
  • Parent and community support for learning
  • Under-achievement of boys
  • Under-achievement of ethnic minorities
  • Primary/secondary transition
  • Mainstream/special transition

Throughout the year each school receives advisory visits from a member of the Education team and at the end of each academic year, the Company hosts a conference at which all of the schools present their projects.  It is one of the strengths of the programme and offers all member schools an opportunity to share their projects and develop new ideas from others.  Schools in the Network are frequently given the opportunity to benefit from projects supported by the Company’s educational grant-making. The next conference will take place next year and a date will be anounced here.

The Network has grown from 12 Inner London schools in 2005 to 23 schools in 2011.
